As my country’s largest toy manufacturing and export base, Guangdong Toys has ranked first in the country in terms of toy export value for more than 30 consecutive years. In 2019, the national toy export was 31.136 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 24.2% year-on-year; of which Guangdong toy exports were 21.509 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 69.1% of the national share.
Guangdong’s toy products are well-known for their high technology content and good manufacturing technology. Toys with high technology content in European and American countries are basically produced in Guangdong. Among them, Shantou City (Chenghai District), as one of the areas with the most concentrated toy production enterprises, high technological innovation capabilities and high-tech products in Guangdong, has formed a relatively mature and complete industrial ecology, and the industrial cluster effect is obvious.
At the same time, the share of Guangdong’s exports in the form of “processing trade” has decreased year by year, dropping to 37.67% in 2019, while the export trade of private-brand products has continued to increase. Since 2017, China’s toy export situation has been optimistic. The export value reached US$44.15 billion that year, a year-on-year increase of 31.2%, the largest increase in the past 10 years.
Li Zhuoming, president of the Guangdong Toy Association, said that China is the world’s largest toy production and export base and the world’s second largest toy consumer. Thanks to the frequent launch of innovative products and the economic recovery in Europe and the United States, Chinese toys sell well in the global market.
Relevant statistics show that China’s toy exports last year were US$44.15 billion, a year-on-year increase of 31.2%, of which traditional toy exports amounted to US$23.961 billion, a year-on-year increase of 30.4%. In the first two months of this year, China’s toy exports were 21.27 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.9%.
According to reports, Guangdong is China’s largest toy export province. Last year, the export of toy products was 22.706 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 24.1%, accounting for 51.49% of China’s total toy exports.
